What is Drain Tip for Culture Sensitivity - Aerobic?
Culture and sensitivity drain fluid test measures the level or amount of the pathogenic organism present in the drain fluid undergoing a culture. The sample here is the drain fluid. The test is a confirmatory test to detect the presence of Abnormal Abdominal Fluid that gets collected in the body. The test is used during the treatment and post the treatment. It is also known as C/S Anaerobic Drain Fluid. Studies and cases show that radiological imaging is a standard way or should be used as a standard method to assess deep-tissue infections within patients who suffer from drainage catheters. An effective method to obtain specimens for culture is a direct approach of aspiration towards collections of fluids that get affected on a large scale.
Preparation
The patient doesn’t need to make special preparations for a Culture and Sensitivity Drain Fluid test. All you have to do is inform your doctor about any medications you’re under. Your doctor also needs to about your allergies, if any. To be a little more precise, you can report your response to these medications to your doctor. It is not necessary but shall help your doctor plan your test and take any essential precautions if required. A change of diet will be advised. This diet should be followed strictly for a few days before the day of your test. Also, this will help obtain accurate results.
Uses
Drain fluid is tested to detect the presence of culturing activity of pathogens in an infected fluid. Later, microscopic tests are carried out to get some knowledge about the amount or level of culture of pathogens. It helps in understanding the factors that cause the growth of the infected organism. When the surrounding area of the disc is cleared, it shows whether or not the organism is sensitive towards antibiotics used by all gender age groups.
Procedure
A drain fluid sample is collected. This sample is tested using a combined beta-lactam and beta-lactamase – inhibiting agent. The sample is assessed depending on the amount of culture of specific pathogens in the drain fluid. The amount or level of culture is indicated by Gram Stain Microscopy and culture. Factors like the status of an isolate as a pathogen and antimicrobial susceptibility results are also taken into account. In a clinical microbiology laboratory, after the process of Gram staining, a microscopic test of catheter drainage and aspirated fluids is carried out.
